HISTORY : Karuizawa distillery was established in 1955 at the foot of Mount Asama， an active volcano. The area is popular as a mountain resort， and the distillery is the highest in Japan at 850 meters above sea level. Aiming for traditional， small-scale， high-quality production， the distillery uses wooden washbacks， small stills， and Spanish sherry casks. It also offers an ideal environment for whiskey production， with low temperatures and high humidity.
Karuizawa is the gold standard for rare Japanese whiskey. The distillery closed in 2011， having not produced whiskey for more than 10 years.
This particular whisky from Karuizawa was distilled in 1984 and aged in cask #4021 for about 28 years before being bottled in 2012. It is part of Karuizawas Carp Coy series.
