This product is a highly evaluated and popular 1985 Gibson Les Paul 1959 Reissue Cherry Sunburst.

This product is the predecessor of the current Gibson Custom Shop Historic series, it was produced for a very short period of time before the Les Paul Classic, which started production in 1990, and after the Reissue 58, 
This product is Gibson USAs first full-scale reissue model.
By the way, the Reissue 58, which was produced around 1983 and 1984, is hardly talked about nowadays and seems to be confused with the Reissue 59, but the 58 has a bad reputation for its reproducibility and quality. This reprint 59, which was announced with fullness, became the starting point of the historic collection.

From the stamp on the back of the head, the serial number of this product is "5 007*", a 5-digit serial number. The number of the original CTS pot is also 13784*, so Im pretty sure it was made in early 1985. I dont know how many were made in total...

I remember that it was made in the Nashville factory, but I remember that it was a limited release only in Japan for some reason.

I bought this guitar brand new around 1988, and played it with a Marshall JCM 800 for about three years until I switched to a Steinberger GM7TA as my main guitar.  Since then, it has been sleeping in a hard case for nearly 30 years in a good environment, but I think it is a masterpiece that hibernated in good condition and in the most "sounding" condition.

I bought it at Ikebe Vintage Guitars in Shinjuku at the time.
There were about 3 new and unused Les Pauls of the same type, and I chose the one in the best condition, including the one with the tiger eyes on the top. (At that time, the shop had a genuine vintage Les Paul made in 1960, so I shrewdly played it as well.www)

This 80s 59 reissue model used "selected wood" unique to that time when wood was still abundant, and it was also sold as a high-quality construction with Gibsons heart.

The first thing that catches your eye is the beautiful flame maple on the top.
It is a very beautiful and high-quality flame hard maple with a very beautiful tiger heather unique to real hard maple, which is not unnatural after 2000. As you can see by looking at the cross section of the pickup cavity, it is not like what you see these days, where you can only see the incomprehensible streaks of wood on the surface (there were no fake flame maple  in those days). a very solid and thick center alignment 2 piece.

The back is of course one piece mahogany. The mahogany is also a very good quality mahogany with a beautiful grain and a solid mass. This is a part that even the ultra-realistic copy models of Japan at the time couldnt do (or rather, if you look at the chamfered mahogany on the back, you can tell at a glance whether its genuine or not.)

The neck is also one piece of mahogany, and like the body, it is of very good quality.

The fingerboard is made of rosewood, which is also a high-quality rosewood with a very beautiful grain and a deep color.

No matter which wood you look at, even in those days when wood was abundant, it is attractive that "selected finest wood" is used.

In addition, the paint has a very ultra-thin lacquer finish and has a wonderful texture. The texture and luster of the lacquer, which is unique to the ultra-thin lacquer, has a wonderful texture, atmosphere, and presence, which is also the charm of the 59 reissue model at this time.
In addition, this product has no cracks in the paint and almost no fading, probably because it was stored in a good condition.

The grip of the neck is different from the log shape of the Historic Collection 59 reissue. It is not as slim as the slim taper, but it is close to the slim taper.
The thick log shape of the Historic Collection may be difficult for Japanese people with small hands to play, but this one has a moderate shape, and the neck shape is one of the reasons for its popularity.

Since the frets were originally thin, I had Jim Dunlop 6100 refret them immediately after purchase. More than 80% of the frets remain (because Jim Dunlops frets are hard).

Only fret exchange, others are full original condition. Play condition, appearance condition is also very good.

The pickups are also original New PAF - called "Tim Show" or "Tim Show PAF" in the United States.

Other than that, the metal parts are dull due to aging, fine scratches on the back of the body, and a few dents (belt marks from playing?), etc., but overall, considering the 30-odd years, it is surprisingly good. I think its in good shape.The only disappointing thing is that there is one small dent on the back of the neck.

Weight, but quite heavy. ! It was long before Gibson started doing silly stuff on the Les Paul Model. (I didnt have an environment where I could properly measure myself, so when I measured myself for the first time with the digital scale I usually use, it was 4.60Kg.  I was surprised too.)

With its ultra-thin lacquer finish and easy-to-play neck shape, this model is popular with fans and enthusiasts alike, as it has a different appeal from the historic collection series.

At that time, the list price was very high, and the number of production was small (I remember that it was a limited release only in Japan.), so it is a rare model that rarely appears on the market even now. It has a premium price in the USED market both in Japan and overseas.
